About
Vaughan McMillan is a Secwépemc artist living in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, Alberta), she honours and celebrates living on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region. Treaty 7 includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations), as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations). Mohkinstsis is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. In her practice she draws, paints, writes and is a print maker. She also creates sculptural works out of found fabrics and handmade paper. Everyday mundanity through objects and comfort foods are of interest to her, as she is concerned with how unnoticed objects can tie us together through commonality. Her artwork is an exploration of her own identity as a Secwépemc woman and the social positions and cultural norms we hold in society. Vaughan holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from AUArts and a Master of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
Vaughan is currently working on her next exhibition and open for collaboration. Let her know if you want to connect by clicking the link below and sending her an email!
